As the countdown begins for I’m a Celebrity 2011, McFly’s Dougie Poynter has revealed how much he is looking forward to life in the jungle.

Dougie is one of the contestants that has been announced for this year’s show, a line-up that includes The Only Way Is Essex star Mark Wright, former jockey Willie Carson and Jessica-Jane Clement.

Speaking before flying out to Australia, the McFly guitarist said: “I’m looking forward to the whole thing. Living in the jungle’s going to be pretty rad.”

“I’m going to learn some new skills, like digging holes, setting traps and general life skills.”

“I would give everything a go. I can eat 863 bugs in a minute. The whole reason I’m doing this is to capture some pets and bring them back.”

Despite being a member of one of the most popular British pop acts, Dougie isn’t too confident about winning the show.

Referring to his chances of being King of the Jungle, he said: “After a week I think everyone will be sick off me. I’ll probably say something that will put them off me.”

Dougie is actually second favourite to win the show, behind Mark Wright who is the bookies favourite.

As for the TOWIE star, he has revealed that the time was right to leave the show that made him famous.

He said: “I feel I have gone as far as I can in TOWIE for the time being. It’s been an amazing platform for me and I have loved every moment of it.”

“I will miss everyone and the whole experience but when I was asked if I wanted to do the jungle, I really wanted to take the opportunity.”

“I am really excited about doing it. It’s a great new challenge for me and I hope people will see me other than just the guy off TOWIE.”

“I think people think of me as someone who can get what he wants, but ultimately I am very much a home bird. I love my family and friends and I do think I am a nice guy. Hopefully people will get to see that when I am in the jungle.”

As mentioned, Mark is the favourite to win the show at odds of 4/1, while other front runners are Antony Cotton, and Dougie.
