Edwina Currie became the first Strictly Come Dancing contestant to be voted off the show after she failed to win support from the public for her efforts.

The former politician was previously awarded respectable scores from the judges, but she lost out to rival Nancy Dell’Olio who actually obtained less points for he performance.

Referring to her time on the show, Edwina said: “It was a great, great experience. I now have arches back in my feet, I have muscular calves and I can walk round hotel rooms on my toes, which is what I’m doing right now.”

“I’d have liked more dances like the tango, the salsa, the rumba — lovely. Ballroom drove me round the bend.”

As for her reported falling out with Nancy since the live shows started, Edwina was quick to play down suggestions that the two didn’t get on.

She said: “Nancy’s fine, I’m happy for her. She’s having a ball and that is lovely. There is not a smidgen of rivalry. It’s all complete fabrication — as far as I know.”

Elsewhere in Strictly Come Dancing news, Jason Donovan has dismissed claims that he gained an upper hand on the show by receiving tips from an ex-Strictly Come Dancing pro before joining the show.

Donovan – who has set the standard so far in this year’s competition – said: “I had a couple of pointers, but they were by no means formal lessons. And all they taught me is that I’ve got my work cut out.”

As for how the Strictly Come Dancing betting is shaping up at this stage, Jason Donovan is the favourite at 7/4 followed by Harry Judd at 16/5 and Holly Valance at 6/1.

In terms of the next elimination, it is expected to be between Audley Harrison and Nancy Dell’Olio.

The next show is on our screens Friday evening with the remaining contestants looking to impress the judges once again.
