Robbie Savage has revealed that Saturday night’s Strictly Come Dancing show was one of the best nights of his life.

The former footballer recovered from a poor opening week to score 29 points and receive a standing ovation from all four judges for his foxtrot.

After weeks of saying how difficult he was finding the training and how he expected to leave the show before too long, Savage admits it was a special moment.

He also believes that Craig Revl Horwood’s poor mark and criticism the previous week helped him motivate himself for the much improved performance.

He said: “I’ve got to say it was probably one of the best nights of my life. The previous week with Craig’s 2… to get a 7, I felt so good. ”

“I was buzzing. Len’s comments and Alesha’s marks… walking up the stairs and to have the other competitors cheering my name. It’s the first time in my life I’ve been wanted.”

Savage has taken to his Twitter page a few times to comment on the evening too, saying: “Still can’t believe I danced a sober foxtrot in front of 9 million people!!” and “If I go out I go out on a high, a dance which changed my life ,a night I’ll never forget !! Thank you!”

The BBC Football pundit’s dance partner, Ola Jordan, also tweeted her delight at how the foxtrot went. She said: “Thank you to everyone for your amazing tweets! I loved dancing our dance! Robbie was so good! Very proud!”

Savage will hope to repeat the same level of performance this weekend when he and Ola take on the tango.

As for how the performance has changed the Strictly Come Dancing betting as far as Savage is concerned, he is now 14/1 to win the show and 33/1 to be the next contestant to leave.
