Following the news that Alesha Dixon has left Strictly Come Dancing to join Britain’s Got Talent, former judge Arlene Phillips has been linked with a move back to the show.

The 68-year-old lost her place on the BBC One show to Alesha in 2009, but her fans are demanding that she considers a dramatic return.

Speaking about this very issue, Arlene said: “The Strictly thing was just starting to die down.”

“Having been asked about it every day for years, this Christmas and New Year I thought — heaven, it’s ending a bit. Maybe there is another life for me.”

“Then this happened, and as soon as it did my phone hasn’t stopped ringing.”

“And I am very grateful but I can’t even say thank you without it causing an avalanche. I’ve not been able to breathe.”

She then went on her Twitter page to say: “Gosh Twitter followers and friends. I am overwhelmed by your incredible tweets campaigns and Facebook messages. So much love and thanks.”

Other names in the frame for Alesha’s replacement – which should be named in the next few months – include former Strictly winner Kara Tointon and professional dancer Karen Hardy.

As for the final name on this list, Karen Hardy has admitted that she was shocked by Alesha leaving the show.

She said: “I’m shocked to hear the news Alesha is going. I’m completely overwhelmed by the amazing support from my fans and through Facebook and Twitter.”

“Obviously, as everything has happened so suddenly, it will be exciting to see what happens.”

BBC bosses can of course take their time with the decision as the show doesn’t start again for another few months.

There is no doubt that losing Alesha was a big blow for the biggest show on the BBC though and it will be interesting to see which direction they head in next.
