Strictly Come Dancing contestant Robbie Savage has admitted that he is extremely worried about his debut on the dance floor this weekend.

A pre-recorded group dance was show a couple of weeks ago, but the first live show takes place on Friday night.

The last few weeks have been spent practicing of course, but this doesn’t mean the contestants, including the former footballer, are very anxious about the first show.

Speaking on Lorraine this morning, Savage said: “There are a few of us in the show – myself, Dan Lobb, Russell Grant – who have no experience of dancing whatsoever. And Friday night me and Dan are both dancing so it’s going to be really scary.”

“I’ve got to say it’s harder than football. An hour a day as a footballer – it’s an easy life. And if you’re not performing well you can hide in training and relax a little bit, but in this it’s every hour God sends. There’s no hiding place.”

“I don’t think you’re ever prepared enough for it. They say you’ve got to do a minimum of 12 hours a week, but it’s not – it’s every minute of every day because you have the press following you, it’s a celebrity lifestyle and me and Dan aren’t like that. I don’t like it, it’s not me.”

Savage then reserved praise for his dance partner, Ola Jordan, saying: “She’s wonderful, a fantastic teacher, as are all the girls, but she’s a very hard taskmaster.”

Elsehwere in Strictly Come Dancing news, singer Holly Valance has revealed that her dance partner, Artem Chigvintsev, is a ‘very good teacher’.

She said: “Artem and I are going very well. He’s a very good teacher, he’s patient.”

“We squabble and bicker but at least it’s light-hearted and it’s not too heavy and we can just laugh about it. But you could get really mean by the end of the week.”

Artem – who won the show with Kara Tointon last year – spoke of the work Holly is going to have to put in, saying: “Holly’s progress is quite good. There are moments where it looks really good and a lot more moments where it looks in the process of being good.”

“Let’s say out of 100 per cent we’ve probably put effort about 15 per cent. So there’s a lot more. A lot more.”

Looking at the betting ahead of this weekend’s first live show, Holly and Artem are second favourites to win the show at 4/1.
