X Factor producer Mike Darnell has revealed that he has no regrets about replacing Cheryl Cole with Nicole Scherzinger on the judging panel.

Girls Aloud singer Cole was originally part of the line-up, but was replaced after only a couple of auditions because X Factor bosses didn’t feel it was working out.

However, after the premiere of the show aired this week, many viewers and critics have revealed that they prefer Cole to Scherzinger and made it clear that Darnell made a mistake in sacking the English star.

This was after Cole made a brief appearance at the start of the first show, before being replaced by the Pussycat Doll without mention of the incident.

Responding to the pro-Cheryl, anti-Nicole brigade, Darnell said: “It’s easy to love the one that’s gone, but Nicole is great too. Both are stunning but also very different. I have no regrets. But I also love Cheryl.”

Darnell also faced questions about the ratings of the show. It started with 12 million viewers, despite Simon Cowell’s other show, American Idol, regularly breaking the 20 million barrier.

In response to this, Darnell said: “We lived with the reality that there is an enormous interest in every show during premiere week, and honestly, we’re just relieved this morning. Other than crazy expectations, this is a very good premiere.”

The first show certainly was an interesting watch with many of the usual weird auditions combined with some surprise packages as well as potential stars of the future.

As far as the betting for X Factor USA is concerned, Stacy Francis is already favourite to win the show at 6/1. The 42-year-old single mum belted out (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman and wowed the judges on the opening show.

Then there is Chris Rene who is available at 10/1 to win the whole thing. The 28-year-old – who is only just out of rehab for drink and drug addiction sang his own song ‘Young Homey’ and it is fair to say the judges were impressed.

The next episode is available to UK viewers on ITV2 at 9pm this evening.
