Without doubt the most eccentric X Factor contestant to hit our screens this year, Goldie Cheung has quit the show to spend more time with her family.

This is despite making it to the Judge’s Houses stage of the show where she was set to be mentored by Louis Walsh in a bid to make it to the live shows.

Explaining her decision, she said: “The X Factor has been a fantastic experience and very challenging for me at times. I was very grateful to Louis for offering me a place in the final.”

“However, I have decided to withdraw from the competition because I knew I would miss my family so much. I wish all the finalists the best of luck and look forward to watching them every week.”

The Hong Kong born singer has had the audience amazed in the first few shows with her outrageous auditions. In last night’s show for example, she chased Gary Barlow around Wembley Arena to give him a hug.

As for Louis Walsh’s view on the withdrawal, he said: “It was such a shame Goldie had to pull out of the competition. I thought she had great potential to entertain viewers in the live shows.”

“But it has given someone else an amazing opportunity and although it was a hard decision of who to replace her with, I am pleased with my choice.”

The person who will replace Goldie is likely to be revealed on next weekend’s show as the judge’s houses episodes are broadcast.

As for the categories the judges are mentoring, Louis has the overs, Gary Barlow has the boys, Kelly Rowland has the girls and Tulisa Contostavlos has the groups.

Looking at the latest betting for this year’s X Factor, Janet Devlin is the favourite at 3/1, closely followed by Amelia Lily at 6/1.
